State Assemblyman Working On Legislation To Rename Waldo Tunnel After Robin Williams

MARIN COUNTY (KCBS)— State Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, says he's working on legislation to change the name of Marin's Waldo Tunnel to the Robin Williams Tunnel.

"Robin Williams grew up and attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, went to College of Marin. Also of course he launched his comedy career in the clubs of San Francisco. This tunnel really connects the San Francisco and Marin communities and is a perfect way of tying those parts of his life together," said Levine.

Williams took his own life in August at his Tiburon home and shortly thereafter an online petition was launched regarding the Waldo name-change.

The tunnel is now named after William Waldo, who was a Whig Party candidate for governor in the mid-19th Century.

A name change would have to be approved by the Legislature. The request will be made in December, when a new legislative session begins.
