Cable Cars, CBS Newsrooms Among 1,000 Left Without Power In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - PG&E officials say at least 1,000 people were hit by an outage Monday afternoon that turned the KPIX 5 and KCBS Radio newsrooms dark.

Around 12:37 p.m. monitors went black for San Francisco workers hit by the outage.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the blackout, which also halted San Francisco's famed cable cars:

PG&E's outage map shows the issue stretching from Union Square to near Pier 39, encompassing much of North Beach.

Despite the wide area involved, PG&E told KPIX 5 only about 1,000 customers were affected. Power should be fully restored by 4 p.m., according to PG&E.

The CBS building at Battery and Broadway briefly operated on backup power, but the lights kicked back on around 1:10 a.m.
