More Couples Consider 'Pup-Nups' To Avoid Pet Custody Disputes

(CBS SF) -- Looking to avoid a costly custody battle over the family pet, more couples are signing up for a legal agreement known as a pet pre-nup or a "pup-nup."

The pup nup, or "pre-pup" as they are also called, specifies who gets custody of a pet before you even bring it home.

Along with custody, a pup-nup can lay out other considerations like financial responsibilities, even if the couple stays together.
