Storm Systems To Move Through NorCal, But Rain Totals Won't Be Too Impressive

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Do you have a dog in your neighborhood who barks all the time, but when you go up to see it, the dog turns passive, sitting there wagging its friendly tail?

Well, that's what our weather will be like in the Bay Area this week: lots of bark, but little or no bite.

On the surface, the long-range forecast looks promising: Three weather systems passing through Northern California between now and Saturday. That's three chances of rain over the next five days. But each weather system will be unable to tap into the tropical moisture that sits between here and Hawaii, and without that tropical tap, we will see light-to-moderate showers at most.

KPIX 5 WeatherCenter: Current Conditions & Forecast

You likely have two questions: "When?" and "How much?" Although those are always moving targets when forecasting 120 hours into the future, here is our best estimate: After a dry day on Tuesday, it will be showery at times on Wednesday & Thursday. We will have another dry day on Friday, but a third round of showers will move through Saturday.

The North Bay will be closest to the steady rain, and I expect 0.75" to 1.50" rain to fall north of the Golden Gate from Wednesday through Saturday. That sounds like a lot, but that much rain is exactly average for a week in November. We need even more than that to do any catching up on our rain deficit.

The East Bay, San Francisco, and Peninsula will likely receive 0.30" to 0.60" in total, with the South Bay getting a little less than that.

And although I hope your neighborhood stays free of aggressive dogs, I'm personally hoping the storms we get after Thanksgiving do have a little more 'bite' to them!
