Wet, Windy Weather Topples Trees Across San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Wet and windy weather continues to have an impact on large trees in San Francisco, where a number of them toppled over this weekend, including a large branch that fell in the city's North Beach neighborhood.

A large limb from a tree loaded with leaves fell onto the sidewalk at Columbus Avenue and Union Street, near Washington Square, early Monday morning. There were no reports of injuries or parked cars damaged.

Work crews were on the scene to chop and remove it.

On Sunday, at Oak and Broderick streets in the city's Lower Haight neighborhood, a large limb fell from a tree on top of two cars and a taxi cab. There were no injuries but the cars were damaged.

By 12 p.m. on Sunday, there were three other trees or tree limbs that fell down in other parts of the city.

According to Rachel Gordon from the San Francisco Department of Public Works, there are 105,000 trees in the city and when the wind picks up, many become vulnerable to being knocked over.

Gordon told KCBS that anyone who sees a large limb hanging off of tree that might impede a truck to move under it, should call 311 so that DPW workers can take a look.
