Residents Near Russian River Asked To Evacuate Over Possible Flooding

SONOMA COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Sonoma County officials are advising residents in low-lying areas near the Russian River to evacuate in advance of expected flooding.

The voluntary evacuation order affects residents in low-lying areas of communities including Guerneville and Monte Rio.

The river is only about a foot below flood stage as of early Friday morning and is expected to crest at about 1 p.m. three and a half feet above flood stage at Guerneville.

Some flooding is already reported along the river and its tributaries. By the time it crests, a number of homes and businesses are likely to be flooded.
