Homeowner Evacuated After Heavy Rains Cause Mudslide In Tiburon Backyard

TIBURON (KCBS)— One homeowner was evacuated early Tuesday morning when heavy rains caused a mudslide in his Tiburon backyard.

Tiburon Fire Battalion Chief Kelly Bradley said the heavy rain began around midnight and they received several calls of flooding.

"We had a residence on Venado Drive that had a small landslide/ mudslide behind the house. It impacted the house. Engineers are out there evaluating the house," said Bradley.

While many in Tiburon were caught off guard, businesses and residents are gearing up for more wet weather in the forecast.

Loc Pham, a nail salon owner couldn't believe the six inches of water that inundated his business on Tiburon Blvd. He said he didn't have much of a problem during last week's storm on Thursday that was dubbed by many media outlets as the 'Storm of the Decade'.

Heavy rains overnight overwhelmed a marsh across the street sending wreaths and dirt into his low-lying shot.

That was the same problem at Tiburon's town hall, where maintenance worker Pete Velles pumped out a foot and a half of marsh water from the hall's basement.

"We were ready last week and the week before that, but it just came down so hard, so fast that we weren't expecting it. There was nothing we could do about it," he said.

The maintenance workers are attempting to pump out the lagoon in anticipation of more rain.
