SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco restaurant successfully collected more than 10,000 toys Wednesday in a Christmas Eve toy drive intended to bring toys to the city's neediest children.

The Toy Drive, sponsored by Lefty O'Doul's, a longtime Union Square-area restaurant at 333 Geary St., began at 5 a.m. Wednesday with the goal of collecting 10,000 toys.

Organizers declared success at 9:30 p.m.

In its 14th year, the annual toy drive was supported by figures

including former Mayor Willie Brown, Supervisor London Breed, Fire Chie Joanne Hayes-White and Police Chief Greg Suhr, as well as carolers, a 30-piece German horn band and surprise entertainers.

More than 6,000 toys were distributed by volunteers Wednesday to toy giveaways in the Bayview/Hunters Point and Fillmore districts of San Francsico.

Another 3,000 toys will be delivered Christmas morning at 10 a.m.  to Ella Hill Hutch Community Center at 1050 McAllister St., and San Francisco firefighters will pick up the remaining 2,000 toys at 10:15 a.m. for delivery.
