2 Suspects In Stolen Newspaper Delivery Van Arrested After Leading Police On Chase From SF To San Leandro

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A high-speed chase involving a stolen San Francisco Chronicle delivery van ends with police arresting two suspects in San Leandro Monday morning.

The pursuit started at 8:27 a.m. near Keith Street and Palou Avenue, where San Francisco police tried to pull over the vehicle but its driver fled, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Police chased the van down the Peninsula and across the San Mateo Bridge.

The pursuit was in Hayward as of around 9:15 a.m. and continued into San Leandro, where one suspect got out of the van and started running through residents' backyards, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Brian Ashton, a nearby resident, watched as police and CHP were on the trail of the stolen vehicle at Lake Chabot Road. He tried to alert police that the truck had driven into a 'No Outlet' zone.

Moments later, the stolen van came to a stop and the driver fled the scene.

When police caught up to the vehicle, the driver jumped out of the truck and ran into the woods behind the houses and ended up in a creek. The suspect was then pulled out and arrested.
