Oakland Police Arrest Man Suspected Of Assaulting Wife After Overnight Standoff

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A man suspected of assaulting his wife was arrested in Oakland Saturday morning after a standoff that lasted nearly 10 hours, a police spokeswoman said.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report from a woman who said her husband violently assaulted her with a blunt object and held against her will at a home in the 4100 block of West Street, Oakland police officer Johnna Watson said.

The woman also reported that her children ages 2 to 13 were also in the home, Watson said.

Officers arrived to the scene and worked to convince the suspect to surrender, she said.

The police department's tactical team also responded to the scene and entered the home around 8 a.m. Saturday when they found the suspect and arrested him, according to Watson.

The woman and children were found safe inside the home, Watson said.

Information on the suspect's identity was not available Saturday morning.
