Will We Be Enjoying Beach Weather This Valentine's Day?

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Will the weather be warm at the beach for Valentine's Day? - Dana Vickers, Alameda

A: Yes, but it comes with a warning!

Do you see all those high clouds over the Bay Area? Those clouds are associated with a storm offshore and are riding over the ridge of high pressure providing us the dry, unseasonably warm conditions. This storm is significant because the surface winds is generating a long period swell which is expected to arrive overnight tonight. This long period west swell will promote hazardous beach conditions along our coast tonight into Saturday. A beach hazard statement has been issued by the National Weather Service and remains in effect from Thursday morning, February 12 through Saturday afternoon, February 14.

The most vulnerable beaches are Kehoe Beach, Abbotts Lagoon Beach, Point Reyes Beach North and Point Reyes Beach South. These west facing beaches can be especially dangerous. There will be an increased chance of rip currents and sneaker waves which can knock people down and pull them out into the ocean. Be sure to always keep your eyes on the ocean and use extra precaution when with children or pets off their leash.

I would love to hear from you! Please send weather questions, observations and photos to me, Gonzales@kpix.cbs.com and I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a terrific Wednesday!
