Does An East Bay Congresswoman Have A Better Plan Than The President For Combating ISIS?

WASHINGTON (KCBS)— Congresswoman Barbara Lee says she has a better plan than the President when it comes to fighting ISIS.

KCBS spoke with the East Bay representative who serves California's 13th District, which includes; Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, Piedmont, and San Leandro).

Lee said she's glad that President Obama recently issued another Authorization for the Use of Military Force, because she said it raises the chance to debate a former authorization, which still stands. She referred to the one that came down right after the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

"It was so broad, it set the stage for perpetual war," Lee said.

She wants to repeal that authorization and introduce a plan that she said would not just bomb ISIS, but would instead dismantle it by stopping the flow of oil money to the terrorists, and ending the tide of fighters joining up from other countries.

"Only when we deal with the underlying causes will we be able to dismantle and degrade ISIS. The president said that military experts have said that," she said.

Lee said she knows this has been called a "Peace Bill", but she claimed that's not what she's proposing. It doesn't even rule out military force.

"Nobody is saying that they're not a horrific and barbaric organization, yes they're terrorists and we have to deal with this."
