SF Chef Shares Culinary Secrets In Cannabis Cooking Class

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco's JeffThe420Chef hosted a cooking class Saturday to share the recipe for his signature "light-tasting" oils and butters infused with pot.

The inventor of Cannabutter eschews cooking with chopped pot, preferring to incorporate his special oils and butters into recipes mixed with other conventional herbs, like rosemary. The recipes on his website include CannaBaby Love Bites (brownies), CannaCherry Glazed Ham, and Happy Apple Pie.

Participants who signed up in advance, were invited to a non-disclosed place in San Francisco's Mission District. A valid California medical marijuana recommendation, and 1/8 ounce of marijuana were required to participate.

The $175 fee for the class also includes a home-infused butter making kit consisting of a tabletop water boiler, French press, strainer, ceramic dish, butter mold, cheese cloth and Kerrygold grass-fed butter.

A legal notice and a warning about ingesting cannibis can be found on the homepage of JeffThe420Chef's website:

"While cannabis is legal for recreational use in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and DC, as well as for medical use in 20 states, it is still technically illegal under federal law. Do this at your own risk. Remember: edibles require longer to take effect (anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours) and hit way harder than smoking, and the effects last longer (anywhere from 2 to 12 hours depending on the strength of the butter and the amount of edibles you ingest). Do not attempt to drive, operate heavy machinery, make business decisions, or do anything that requires a fair amount of serious thought."
