CHP Identifies Man Killed Saturday In Rollover Crash Near Petaluma

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A 38-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash that was found by a vineyard manager inspecting the property east of Petaluma on Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The manager notified officers of an overturned car he saw next to a creek at the vineyard in the area of Adobe and Frates roads around 11 a.m. Saturday, CHP officials said.

An investigation determined the 38-year-old man was driving east on Adobe Road west of Frates Road where his gray BMW sedan crossed double lines and entered the westbound lane, according to the CHP.

The vehicle then traveled to the shoulder and overturned through the vineyard before coming to rest 200 feet away from the road, CHP officials said.

The man was the only person inside the car and suffered fatal injuries, according to the CHP.

CHP officials have not determined the speed the car was traveling.

The sedan sustained major damage to its front end, sides and roof, according to the CHP.

There were no witnesses to the crash, but a nearby resident reported that his dogs were barking at about 4 a.m. Saturday, CHP officials said.

The Sonoma County coroner's office identified him today as Sonoma resident Mark Perry.
