Missing UC Berkeley Student, Soccer Player Found Dead In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBS SF) - The body of a UC Berkeley student who went missing after a party near the University of Southern California Campus has been found dead after apparently being hit by a car on the freeway.

Eloi Vasquez, 19, was last seen at a party held by the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter at the University of Southern California, Cal Athletics officials said. The house is about three blocks from the USC campus.

Los Angeles police said Vasquez last seen around 1:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West 28th Street attending a party with his friends.

On Monday, Los Angeles Police Department's Missing Persons Unit connected the Vasquez disappearance to a traffic collision that took place on the Eastbound 10 Freeway on Saturday, March 28th around 2:25 a.m.

"During the investigation, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed that the pedestrian struck on the freeway was unfortunately our Missing Person, Mr. Eloi Vasquez.," reads a press release from LAPD.

KPIX 5 has learned that the family went to the hospital to identify him. Police tell the family that the driver stopped and identified himself at the scene.

Vasquez reportedly told his friends at the party that he wanted to take a walk.

Police said he left the party and never returned, but he did call friends and indicate that he was lost.

"I need your help, I need you here. Please come help me." When the friend asked Vasquez where he was, he only "I'm in L.A., and I'm lost," before his phone died around 2:15 a.m.

Vasquez is a freshman and member of the men's soccer team at Cal, according to athletic department officials. He's a native of San Rafael.
