Amazon Jumping Into Services With Music Lessons, TV Installation And More

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) - About 85 million Amazon shoppers buy products like TV's and home audio systems that require installation that can't be sent in the mail. Now the internet giants want to provide it.

The online retailer just launched its Home Service Marketplace.

It means online shoppers like Emily Glauser can add something extra to her shopping cart. Glauser, who buys books, movies and electronics, can also add handyman services to her list of purchases.

If she buys a big screen TV, she can also purchase the service that will install it.

Taskrabbit, the national on-demand service company, is one of several companies to partner with Amazon to offer as many as 700 services ranging from auto repair and home cleaning to music lessons.

Amazon said 95% of its service pros are local business individuals who are handpicked by the Amazon team.

The KPIX 5 ConsumerWatch team did a side by side comparison of Amazon's new service with a similar service through a brick and mortar retailer like Best Buy.

The purchase of a TV with the added installation service was $60 cheaper through Amazon. Amazon said it will ensure the job gets done right or give a refund with a promise to cover any damage.

Amazon just rolled out the service in San Francisco with plans to expand nationwide.
