San Francisco Giants Super Fan Overcomes Cancer To Make It To 52 Home Openers In A Row

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Among the Giants fans taking in the team's 58th home opener in San Francisco, one woman is giving thanks for making it to the last 52 in a row.

Betty Sinsley didn't think she'd make it this year's Opening Day because she was diagnosed last year with cancer.

She is truly a faithful fan and started going to Giants games and home openers when her husband was alive and has continued after his death.

Sinsley notes a lot has changed since her first home opener in 1963. "Well, we're in a better park," said Sinsley. "I spent 37 years at Candlestick (Park)"

She can't tell you what her favorite game is, or her least favorite. "Too many. I can't remember that far back."

But she can sure tell you her favorite player. "My favorite player was J.T. Snow."

Sinsley first started coming to the home openers after her husband bought season tickets. After he passed away five years ago, she continued the streak.

This year was the first time she was afraid her seat would be empty. "I had major cancer surgery,' said Sinsley. "So I wasn't sure I was going to make it this year."

Today, she's cancer-free ... and now she says the only problem she deals with is finding someone who wants to watch the ballgame with her. "Yeah, I don't come as often as I used to because it's hard to find ladies that want to go to the ballgame."
