NFL Reportedly Suspending San Mateo's Tom Brady Over 'DeflateGate'
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) – The National Football League is reportedly set to suspend New England Patriots quarterback and San Mateo native Tom Brady, in the wake of pro football's "Deflategate" controversy.
According to a report from the New York Daily News, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to announce next week that the Super Bowl MVP will sit out some games in the 2015 season. Comcast SportsNet New England reported Friday that the team feared the suspension could last six to eight games.
The suspension comes after an investigation found Brady was "at least generally aware" that the Patriots were deflating footballs before the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
On Friday afternoon, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick tweeted his support for Brady, noting that the Patriots defeated the Colts in that game by a score of 45-7 to advance to the Super Bowl.
Brady is a graduate of Serra High School in San Mateo.
