4.8 Earthquake Strikes North Of Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (CBS SF) -- The U.S. Geological Survey reported an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 and later a revised magnitude of 4.8 struck south Nevada north of Las Vegas Friday.
The USGS says the quake hit at 11:47 a.m. and was centered 24 miles southwest of Caliente, Nevada at a depth of 12 miles.
The Nevada Highway Patrol reported damage to one of the state's busiest highway transition ramps. The ramp where southbound U.S. 95 meets southbound Interstate 15 was shut down around 12:30 p.m. and would stay closed indefinitely.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada Reno says several aftershocks, from magnitude-1.0 to 3.8, followed the larger temblor.
The quake was felt as far as California, Arizona and Utah, according to the USGS "Did You Feel It?" reporting website.
People on Twitter reported feeling the tremor.
On Thursday night, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Napa County, the largest quake to hit the Wine Country since a magnitude 6.0 struck the area last August.
