San Francisco All-Girls Baseball Team Set To Compete In National Tournament

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- The dream started back in February, when Rachelle "Rocky" Henley conducted 3 tryouts with the hopes of assembling a travel baseball team.

What resulted was the San Francisco Bay Sox, the only all-girls travel baseball team in Northern California. Twelve girls, from 5th through 8th grade are on the team.

This under-13 club travels and plays against boys' teams across the Bay Area.

Henley, who played third base for the 1994 Colorado Silver Bullets women's professional team, is fine-tuning the Bay Sox for an all-girls national tournament in Orlando, Florida. The tournament is scheduled for May 28.

This club was formed with the help of SF Parks and Rec, with private funding by parents.

They need more funding to support the trip to Florida and to expand the experience of these girls who love the game.
