Volcano-Style Grill Uses Molten Lava To Make Barbecue
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Don't waste your time with messy charcoal or butane when you grill your Memorial Day barbecue.
Try hot, molten lava.
That's what pair of professors at Syracuse University used.
They melted rock and created a lava flow to grill a menu of steaks, salmon and hot dogs.
It was part of the Syracuse University Lava Project. Geologist Jeff Karson collaborated with sculptor Bob Wysocki to make the volcano-style grill.
The lava grill gets as hot as 2000 degrees. Conventional ovens that only reach 500 degrees seem like refrigerators next to these infernos.
Prep time is a pain, though.
It can take up to 3 days to melt the rock needed to make the lava.
