San Francisco City Hall To Celebrate Centennial With Free Live Music, Cabaret, Silent Disco And More

This June, the San Francisco City Hall will celebrate a major milestone: 100 years.

To celebrate the significant occasion, the city will hold a family-friendly celebration in Civic Center Plaza June 19 from 6 to 11 p.m., that will be free to everyone. The event will feature music, entertainment, food trucks, and a light show set to illuminate the façade of City Hall.

In addition, event organizers also plan to honor San Francisco's rich musical heritage, from Fillmore Jazz to grungy Bay Area punk with two stages set up to highlight some of the Bay's rich musical talents. On one, famed singer-songwriter Chuck Prophet will usher attendees through the city's lush music history, with performances by Steve Barton (Translator), Jello Biafra, Tim Bluhm (The Mother Hips), Andy Cabic (Vetiver), Novena Carmel (daughter of Sly Stone), Karina Denike (Dance Hall Crashers), Penelope Houston (The Avengers), Debora Iyall (Romeo Void), Bill Kirchen, Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon), Roy Loney (Flamin' Groovies), Jill Olson (Red Meat), Prairie Prince (The Tubes), Jorge Santana (original member and leader of Malo), Kelley Stoltz, Sal Valentino (Beau Brummels), and more.

On the other stage, local jazz and blues icon Lavay Smith will host Jules Broussard, Denise Perrier, Paula West, Big Bones and Freddie Hughes, who will play hits from San Francisco's early to mid-20th century music scene, like "San Francisco, Open Your Golden Gate" and "Boogie Chillun."

A Silent Disco is also planned with prominent local DJs providing the soundtrack, including DJ Dials and DJ Carnita of Hard French. Circus performers, from belly dancers to fantasy character stilters and sword swallowers from the area, will be roaming around the event, and after dark, LED-lit dancers will perform around Civic Center.

Children will also find things to do, thanks to face painting and a Children's Wonderland designated play area.
