Trump Asks FBI To Investigate Death Threat From Twitter Account Of Escaped Mexican Drug Lord 'El Chapo'

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is calling on the FBI to investigate an apparent death threat on the Twitter account said to belong to escaped Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera.

The unverified account with the Twitter handle @ElChap0Guzman is purportedly run by Guzman's son.

A tweet written in Spanish with obscene language says Trump will swallow his words and includes a homosexual slur referring to anal sex.

Guzman escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico Saturday through an elaborate underground tunnel from the prison's shower area, complete with lighting and a rail system. It is the second time he has escaped from a Mexican prison. After his first escape in 2001, he was recaptured at a beachfront condo in Mazatlan in February of 2014.

Guzman is the boss of Mexico's powerful Sinaloa Cartel. Recently unsealed indictments revealed the cartel imported cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and other drugs into Mexico, and then smuggled them into San Diego. He is considered to be one of the most powerful and richest drug traffickers in the world.

Sunday, Trump seized upon Guzman's latest escape to drive home his views on illegal immigration and the Mexican government.

The real estate mogul blasted the Mexican government, saying, 'Unbelievable corruption and USA is paying the price. I told you so!"

Trump told TMZ, "I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated. It's too important."

In his presidential campaign kickoff speech last month, Trump declared that some Mexican immigrants bring drugs and crime to the U.S., and are rapists.

After the shooting death of a San Francisco woman on Pier 14, Trump pledged to secure U.S. borders because the suspect was an undocumented Mexican national.

The GOP candidate has taken a lot of heat for his stance on immigration. Several companies including Macy's, NBC and Univision have severed ties with him. Trump called on his supporters to boycott Macy's. Later, his spokesman told CNN, he was only referring to the Mexican government, not Latinos.
