Police Say 'Person Of Interest' In Modesto Mass Murder Arrested In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF / CBS SACRAMENTO) -- A person of interest in a Modesto homicide that left five people dead on Saturday was arrested outside a mall in San Jose early Sunday morning, according to police.

Modesto police contacted the San Jose Police Department Saturday to report that Martin Martinez was en route to San Jose driving a Lincoln SUV. Officers located the vehicle, unoccupied, in the 2400 block of Lucerne Way around 10 p.m., according to police.

Officers said their subsequent investigation led them to believe that Martinez was traveling in a different vehicle. That vehicle was found parked in a mall parking lot in the vicinity of Blossom Hill Road and Santa Teresa Boulevard at 12:47 a.m.

Around 1 a.m. Martinez was arrested as he was walking back to the parking lot, according to police. San Jose police have since notified the Modesto Police Department of Martinez's arrest.
