Alameda Teen Arrested In String Of 'Hot Prowl' Burglaries, Sex Assault On Juvenile

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) -- Police in Alameda announced the arrest of a 17-year-old they believe is responsible for several "hot prowl" burglaries and a sexual assault on a juvenile.

Police say the teen is an Alameda resident, and he was arrested for two counts of burglary, and the sexual assault of a minor.  Detectives have linked the suspect to five burglaries, and are continuing to investigate if he was involved in other burglaries as well.

Police had warned residents to be especially vigilant about locking their doors and windows, but many residents in Alameda don't lock their doors.

"I hardly ever lock my apartment complex until late at night. It's always open," said resident Mike Davis. "I've left my door open at night. I've left my door open driving up to the grocery store."
