Worker Killed By Excavator At San Jose Construction Site
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A worker was killed in an apparent construction accident in San Jose Tuesday morning.
The fire department responded at 11:19 a.m. to the construction site at Bruce Way and Almaden Road just outside of San Jose city limits.
Fire officials told KPIX 5 the accident involved an excavator. Witnesses said the excavator bucket swung around and fatally struck an undentified male worker in his 20s.
The construction firm on the site, Ciarra Construction, had no immediate comment on the incident.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health were investigating, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido.
The sheriff's office said the site would be treated as a crime scene until the incident is determined to be accidental.
