Man Arrested In Fatal Salinas Shooting

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police arrested one man and one is at large in a fatal shooting early Sunday morning in Salinas, police said.

Officers arrested Juan Rodriguez, 43, at 1:45 a.m. on suspicion of killing Jose Sanchez at about 12:45 a.m. in front of a home at 29 Julia Ave., according to police.

Officers said Rodriguez was one of two men who were involved in an alleged argument with Sanchez, police said.

Rodriguez is in the Monterey County jail for the alleged shooting as well as warrants for gun and drug offenses, according to police.

Sanchez was allegedly shot in the head and died at Natividad Medical Center several hours later, police said.

Sanchez had allegedly been at the house for a party when he got into the argument that carried into the street, according to police.

The man who shot Sanchez allegedly used a handgun, police said.

Officers said none of the people at the house cooperated with them and the partygoers denied Sanchez was at the home, according to police.
