Burglary Suspect Taken Into Custody Following San Jose Police Standoff
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A fugitive is back in custody about a month after police say he slipped away from a bail bondsman at the Santa Clara County Jail.
Neang Nghounoi, a 29-year-old San Jose resident, was arrested at a home in Askham Place Court Thursday evening on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and multiple counts of burglary and attempted burglary after a standoff that started when officers tracked him to a home there.
Several people fled the home on foot and jumped over fences in the area when officers arrived, police said.
One person was detained and later arrested on an outstanding warrant, while others ran back inside the home, including the fugitive being sought by police.
The fugitive, who police described as a known gang member, remained inside the home with several other people and refused to come out, according to police.
Police set up a perimeter around the home and asked residents to shelter in place until the suspect was detained.
Police said Nghounoi was wanted in connection with a burglary on Aug. 13 in the 2600 block of Casey Way in San Jose.
A female suspect in that burglary knocked on the front door to see if someone was home and acted as a lookout while a male suspect entered through a rear sliding glass door, police said.
The suspects drove away in a late model red Chevy Camaro.
A second suspect in that burglary, 23-year-old Kristina Hernandez, was arrested on Oct. 29.
