Two Arrested On Suspicion Of Beating Man With Metal Pipe

SAN MATEO CO. (CBS SF) -- Two men who allegedly beat a man with a metal pipe were arrested in unincorporated Redwood City on Wednesday afternoon, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies arrested transient Luis Alvarez-Tovilla, 26, and Redwood City resident Edwin Soto, 20, after a victim called sheriff's officials at about 12:45 p.m. to say he saw the alleged suspects who had hit him with a metal pipe on Monday, according to sheriff's officials.

The victim also told sheriff's officials that Alvarez-Tovilla and Soto made criminal threats against him Monday, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies found and arrested the two men at 1:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Chavez Supermarket at 3282 Middlefield Road, sheriff's officials said.

The victim also said during the call that Alvarez-Tovilla and Soto had threatened him Wednesday, sheriff's officials said.

Monday's assault took place at about 5:10 p.m. during an argument between the alleged suspects and the victim, sheriff's officials said. The victim went to a hospital for treatment after the assault, according to sheriff's officials.
