Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Police Patrol Car, Second Vehicle

MILPITAS (CBS SF) -- A 34-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly stealing a Milpitas police patrol car and another vehicle last week, a police sergeant said Monday.

Henrik Danni Baghdasarian, of San Jose, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of carjacking and auto theft, police Sgt. Abbie Serrano said.

Baghdasarian allegedly entered a marked police car in the 1500 block of South Main Street around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday while an officer was investigating a suspicious car parked in the area, Serrano said.

The suspect drove away in the patrol car and fled south to San Jose, according to Serrano.

Via a GPS-based tracking device in the patrol car, police were able to track the vehicle, which was found empty on Old Oakland Road in San Jose, Serrano said.

Investigators determined the suspect abandoned the patrol car and forced a woman out of a 1997 Toyota RAV4 that he fled in, according to Serrano.

Detectives identified Baghdasarian as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for him, Serrano said.

He was taken into custody Thursday without incident with help from Gilroy police, the sergeant said.

Baghdasarian was booked into the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, where he is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail, according to jail records.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Milpitas police at (408) 586-2400 or to leave an anonymous tip at (408) 586-2500.
