Bay Area's Other Chip Kelly Tweets About 49ers New Hire

ORINDA (CBS SF) -- An East Bay businessman who uses the Twitter handle @chipkelly jokingly braced for another round of confusion after the San Francisco 49ers announced the hiring of a new head coach with -- what else? -- a tweet.

Orinda resident John Chipman Kelly went with the user name when he joined Twitter in 2008 because friends and family had been calling him Chip Kelly all his life. But when the Philadelphia Eagles head coach who shares the name started getting flak from irate Eagles fans a couple of months ago, their angry tweets were received by the East Bay start-up executive.

The insulting messages reached new heights a couple of weeks ago when the Eagles fired Kelly. The case of mistaken identity was reported by a number of local and Philadelphia media outlets.

So when Jed York announced the hiring of Kelly as the 49ers new head coach Thursday via Twitter, the Orinda businessman responded with good humor.

That initial tweet got responses from a couple of football fans, though at least one appeared to be in jest.

Kelly followed with a couple more choice messages.

No word yet whether the 49ers have responded to his question about Super Bowl 50 tickets.
