Strong Wind Damages Super Bowl City, Downs Trees

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Strong winds ripped through the Bay Area Sunday night and damaged Super Bowl City in San Francisco's Justin Herman Plaza.

Several big banners toppled, as gusty winds whipped the flags in front of the Ferry Building.

Across town in the West Portal neighborhood, the wind toppled a tree. It hit the ground so hard the sidewalk buckled.

Another tree just missed two cars.

A tree fell across a front yard and onto a truck in Redwood City. People trying to get in and out of their home had to climb a fence.

Southern California was hit even harder. There, unusually strong wind up topped 115 miles per hour. In San Diego, a woman was killed when a tree fell on her car.

The wind collapsed the scaffolding off a ten-story building, sending wood and debris onto several cars and a motorcycle below.
