'Game Changer' Grant Helps Nonprofit Guide Kids To College

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has given away millions of dollars in charitable grants, including $500,000 to Juma, a Bay Area non-profit that helps get students into college and careers.

For over 20 years, Juma has provided low-income youth with jobs and help with college.

Students with the program are able save part of each paycheck for college expenses. Juma then matches every saved dollar two to one.

With the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee 'Game Changer' grant, the organization has received a match of its own.

CEO Mark Spencer told KPIX 5 the $500,000 grant has been a huge help. Juma is already putting the money to work, expanding its business, investing in new equipment and creating more jobs.

Juma has already opened offices in cities like New York and New Orleans. It will also be using the grant to grow its South Bay operations.
