Despite Swells, Mavericks Surf Contest Will Have To Wait, Thanks To Super Bowl 50

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) -- Super Bowl 50 is putting a damper on the Mavericks surf contest.

Big swells on the coast have created ripe conditions for the competition, but organizers say agencies essential to the contest are busy with the Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara.

The period to hold the competition closes on March 31st. Organizers say they are confident Mavericks will take place sometime within the next month and a half.

Models show the surf at Mavericks maxing out in the 30 to 40-foot-plus mark for Thursday and Friday.
