3 Marine Species That Call Bay Area Home Added To Endangered List

POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE (CBS SF) -- There's a new five year plan aimed at protecting endangered marine species, including three that make their home in and around Marin County.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have put Coho salmon, Southern Resident killer whales, and Pacific Leatherback sea turtles on this list, the Marin Independent Journal reported.

The idea is to help these species get some numbers back and put a spotlight on their vulnerable status.

The good news for Coho salmon at least is that El Nino rains have led to a nine year high in the number of salmon egg nests in the Lagunitas Creek watershed.
