SFPD: Eight People Shot, Two Fatally, Over Holiday Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco police Tuesday said five people were injured in shootings over the long holiday weekend, some of them seriously, in addition to the two people killed and one person critically injured in the triple-shooting at Twin Peaks early Valentine's Day.

The first shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on Friday near 21st and Treat streets in the Mission District, according to police.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was standing outside when a vehicle circled the area several times and parked.

A man in his early 20s stepped out of the car and approached the victim, asking him what gang he belonged to, before shooting him multiple times with a handgun.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the area in a blue or gray 2010 Jeep Cherokee and had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning, according to police.

Three people were injured, one of them seriously, in a drive-by shooting in the Bayview District on Saturday around 8:40 p.m., police said.

Two of the victims, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, were walking on La Salle Avenue near Mendell Street near the third victim, a 25-year-old man sitting in a car, when the shooting occurred.

Three men in their 20s drove up in a vehicle described as an older model dark green Buick Oldsmobile and started shooting at the three victims, police said.

The 25-year-old victim sitting in the vehicle received a graze to the head and took himself to the hospital.

The 19-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hip that was not considered life threatening, while the 20-year-old man suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds to his abdomen and hip. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, and no arrests have been made, police said.

As has been previously reported, three people were shot, two of them fatally, in a shooting at the Twin Peaks lookout early Sunday morning.

Richmond resident Richard Contreras, 27, has been arrested in connection with that shooting, which occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Christmas Tree Point Way, according to police.

Santa Rosa residents Julio Peraza, 21, and Rene Mora, 19, both died as a result of the shooting.

An 18-year-old man who was also shot was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

On Monday, around 11 a.m., a 54-year-old man was also shot in the Mission District, according to police.

The suspect, a man in his early-to-mid 30s, rang a doorbell in the 1100 block of Shotwell Street.

When the victim opened the door, the suspect ran into the apartment and demanded money. The two struggled, and the suspect ran out of the apartment to seek help.

A passerby drove the victim to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks that is not considered life threatening. The victim in the case is uncooperative and no arrests have been made, police said.
