Driver Narrowly Escapes Being Crushed When Tree Falls On Car In SF

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A driver escaped serious injury or death in San Francisco after a tree came crashing down on her car Friday.

Annie Williams was stopped near the corner of Arguello Boulevard and Sacramento Street Friday morning when she heard a loud rumble.

Suddenly, a 30-foot tall tree smashed onto the hood of her car.

"I was just waiting for the light and the tree came crashing down on my car," she told KPIX 5. "I had to crawl out of the back."

Williams was shaken, but otherwise uninjured as was the family in the car behind her. Their vehicle was also struck by limbs as was a 33-line Muni bus. No one on the bus was injured.

There was no official word on why the tree came down. A construction crew was working on a nearby sewer line and was jackhammering concrete at the time it toppled over at 8:30 a.m.
