2 Women Arrested For Hit-And-Run After Cyclist Struck In Sausalito

SAUSALITO (CBS SF) -- California Highway Patrol officers arrested two women Friday night in connection with a hit and run, after a bicyclist was struck in Sausalito.

At 9:08 p.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving an injured bicyclist near the corner of Bridgeway and North Bridge Boulevard, according to CHP officials.

Upon arrival, officers found the injured bicyclist, a 54-year-old San Rafael man.

The bicyclist suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was taken treated by paramedics and released at the scene, CHP officials said.

Officers learned the vehicle involved in the collision, a silver Chrysler Town and County minivan, was traveling on northbound U.S. Highway 101.

A witness told police the vehicle exited the highway at Seminary Drive and pulled into a nearby gas station. The witness told police the minivan's driver then switched seats with a passenger, according to the CHP.

The minivan then traveled north on Redwood Highway Frontage Road toward Tiburon.

A Tiburon police officer was able to pull the minivan over, as CHP officers arrived.

After an investigation, CHP officers determined 50-year-old Belvedere Tiburon resident Karen Steward was driving the minivan at the time of the collision. The passenger at the time of the collision was identified as 40-year-old San Francisco resident Heather Robinson, CHP officers said.

Both women displayed signs on intoxication and officers determined the pair was under the influence of alcohol.

Steward was arrested on suspicion of hit and run causing injuring, driving under the influence causing injury and driving under the influence causing injury with a blood alcohol concentration over .08 percent.

Robinson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration over .08 percent and for being an accessory to a felony.

The two were booked into the Marin County Jail, according to CHP officials.
