Giants, A's Represent MLB's Haves, Have Nots
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Call it a tale of two stadiums.
According to the Major League Baseball franchise valuations released Wednesday by Forbes Magazine, the San Francisco Giants are among the league's most valued franchises while the Oakland A's are among the least valued.
The Giants have a valuation of $2.25 billion – an increase of $250 million over their value last year – and enter the 2016 season trailing the New York Yankees ($3.4 billion), Los Angeles Dodgers at $2.5 billion and the Boston Red Sox ($2.3 billion).
Meanwhile, the A's value remained the same as in 2015 -- $725 million – and ranked 29th. The only team with a lower value is Miami which was appraised at a value of $675 milliom.
The estimate of Houston's value had the largest increase at 38 percent to $1.1 billion after signing a new local broadcasting deal.
