Oakland Police Investigating 11th and 12th Homicides After Rash Of Violence

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Police are investigating a fatal shooting Friday morning in East Oakland that made the male victim the city's 12th homicide this year, authorities said.

Dispatchers received calls of the shooting at 11:16 a.m. near the intersection of 99th Avenue and Plymouth Street, less than a block from two middle schools.

The victim was unresponsive when officers arrived and died where officers found him, police said.

It was the second fatal shooting in Oakland in just over the space of 12 hours, according to police.

On Thursday night, three victims were shot outside a store in the 1500 block of 100th Avenue. Police responded to the shooting at 9:40 p.m. and found two men suffering gunshot wounds.

A 27-year-old Oakland man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

A third shooting victim determined to have been shot at the store arrived at a hospital on his own in stable condition.

At about the same time, another shooting victim also arrived at a hospital.

Police believe the man was shot near the corner of 65th Avenue and International Boulevard but are still working on determining what time it happened. That shooting victim is in stable condition, police said.

Police released no information about any possible suspects in the shootings.

The slaying Friday morning is the 12th homicide in Oakland this year, including a shooting on board a BART train near the West Oakland station in January investigated by BART police.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call the Police Department's homicide section at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950.
