Coroner IDs British Tourist Slain In San Francisco Street Stabbing

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco medical examiner's office has identified a British tourist who died last week from stab wounds he suffered during a
robbery as 48-year-old Paul Tam.

Tam died shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday at San Francisco General Hospital of injuries suffered in a Feb. 18 attack near Japantown.

Police said Tam was walking on Post Street near Franklin Street around 8:30 p.m. with his niece when a man and woman grabbed his bag, which contained cash, credit cards, a cellphone and the victim's passport.

When Tam held on to the bag, the male suspect stabbed him in the head and then fled with his belongings.

Police have recovered surveillance video of the attack and released it to the public.
