Video Captures Mountain Lion Casually Walking Around Backyard

BOULDER CREEK (CBS SF) -- An adult mountain lion was captured on video casually walking around a yard in a Boulder Creek neighborhood.

The mountain lion has a casual attitude when homeowner Nichole Wagner drove up and started recording with her cellphone.

Wagner recorded the mountain lion in her yard and told CBS San Francisco, "I wanted to make sure that the car was between myself and him and I wanted to make sure he knew I was there so, I said, "Hey Big Boy!"

While the large mountain lion wasn't aggressive, it also showed no fear.

Wagner said, "He walked up by the chicken coop here, and then walked up around this tree and was up by the trampoline."

After a few moments the mountain lion simply strolled away. Wagner quickly alerted her neighbors. The bold encounter has rattled nerves in the neighborhood, especially among pet owners.

Neighbor Hal Foreman said, "I was rather shocked that it was this close to town because we are only a mile north of town."

Hal is keeping a close eye on his pets since the mountain lion is much larger than either his cat or dog.

Wagner said she also saw the cat again Tuesday night.

"He kind of stopped and looked at me, and my boys were in the car and they were like 'That's a lion'," Wagner said.

Folks living in this quiet neighborhood say they are looking around a lot more than they used to, and are on alert in case the mountain lion comes back.
