19-Year-Old Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Child In Brentwood Church

BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) – An Oakley man was arrested last weekend in Brentwood for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under the age of 10 inside a church restroom, police said Wednesday.

Ladell Smith, 19, was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony counts of sexual assault and child molestation, according to Brentwood police.

Officers responded Saturday to the World of Life Christian Fellowship Church at 4501 O'Hara Ave. to investigate a report of a sexual assault of a male child under the age of 10.

Police said Smith allegedly sexually assaulted the victim in a restroom inside the church during non-service hours.

Smith fled on foot following the assault, but he was apprehended a short distance from the church and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The victim was located at the scene physically unharmed and was reunited with his parent.

Police said both the victim and Smith were members of the church.

The suspect has ties to Richmond, San Francisco and Oakley, and it is believed there may be other victims, police said.

Anyone with information related to this incident or other possible victims is asked to call the Brentwood Police Department at (925) 809-7767.
