Stranded Hikers Airlifted From Cliff Near Point Bonita Lighthouse
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Two hikers were rescued by a helicopter crew in Marin County on Saturday evening after becoming stranded 75 feet from the base of a cliff, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP's H-32 helicopter was on patrol around 7:20 p.m. and its crew saw that the Southern Marin Fire Protection District was responding to reports of a hiker that was off the trail near the Point Bonita Lighthouse.
Authorities determined that two 27-year-old men from San Jose had become stranded, according to the CHP.
The helicopter landed nearby and quickly prepared a hoist rescue, with a firefighter attaching rescue collars to the each of the men.
One at a time, the men were hoisted into the helicopter and transported to the command post for evaluation. Neither man suffered any injuries, according to the CHP.
