Napa Elementary School Assistant Accused Of Meth Possession
NAPA (CBS SF) – The Napa Special Investigations Bureau arrested a Napa elementary school special education assistant Tuesday on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine.
Ellen Maestas, 57, was arrested at Irene Snow Elementary School in the 1100 block of Foster Road in Napa after narcotics investigators found a quarter-ounce of the drug in her rental car at the school, Lt. Gary Pitkin said.
American Canyon police arrested Maestas' boyfriend, 35-year-old Edward Hicks of Vallejo, on April 12 on suspicion of 11 drug and weapon felonies during a traffic stop last week, Pitkin said.
Maestas' son, Leroy Maestas, 34, also was arrested April 12 on suspicion of possession of heroin for sale, child endangerment and being under the influence of a controlled substance at Hicks' home on Marin Street in Vallejo, Pitkin said.
NSIB agents confiscated heroin, a loaded rifle and a shotgun from the residence, and two children in the home were taken into protective custody, according to Pitkin.
Ellen Maestas, who also lived at the Vallejo residence, was not home when her son was arrested. NSIB agents learned she might be driving a rental car, and they contacted the elementary school Tuesday to see if she was at work, Pitkin said.
Detectives waited in a school office while a school administrator summoned her and she was arrested after her rental car was searched, Pitkin said.
Maestas was booked into Napa County Jail on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale.
