Teen Girl Groped Near Downtown Palo Alto

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) – Police are seeking a man who groped a teenage girl near downtown Palo Alto on Monday afternoon.

Police received a report at 3:56 p.m. from a parent of a 15-year-old girl who was groped on the buttocks by a suspect in the Homer Avenue tunnel.

The incident had occurred about 20 minutes before the parent reported the crime. Officers responded but did not find the suspect, police said.

The victim was walking east through the tunnel when the suspect approached from behind and grabbed her buttocks. Once she started screaming, he ran away west, according to police.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man about 40 years old who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. He had a short-buzzed haircut, was unshaven and had a goatee, and wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt with dark blue jeans, police said.

The victim said the suspect smelled bad and also had crooked teeth, police said.

Detectives are trying to determine if the groping incident is connected to any other cases in Palo Alto or other nearby areas.
