Call For Information, $100,000 Reward In 1994 Santa Clara Homicide Renewed

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Authorities in the South Bay on Monday renewed a call for information in a 22-year-old homicide case by once again offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Santa Clara Police Chief Michael Sellers, District Attorney Jeff Rosen and Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitan wrapped up a press conference late Monday morning announcing the reissue of a $100,000 reward for any leads in the 1994 murder of 26-year-old Matthew Flores

Flores, a military veteran and engineer who grew up in Rhode Island, was shot execution-style in a parking lot while he was getting out of his car on March 24, 1994.

His employer at the time, Applied Materials, is once again providing the reward money. According to authorities, the company had previously offered up the $100,000 reward in 2011.

The only major clue authorities have to go on is that an early 1990s model Ford Explorer was seen on surveillance video around the time of the murder.

The shooting happened outside of the view of the security cameras trained on the parking lot.

Santa Clara authorities have long been frustrated by the case. Flores was survived by his wife and their then 8-month-old daughter.

The case has been particularly frustrating to investigators due to the shortage of witnesses, even though there were plenty of people in the area at the time of the shooting.
