2 Teens Arrested For Ice-Pick-Armed Robberies Of Ice Cream Vendors In Watsonville

WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- Two suspects were arrested Friday in connection with the armed robberies of two ice cream vendors in Watsonville.

Andres Monjares, 18, and a 16-year old juvenile were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Officers with the Watsonville Police Department responded at 6:24 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery near the intersection of Palm Avenue and Sudden Street.

Officers contacted an ice cream vendor who said two males robbed him.

The victim said two suspects approached him and demanded money.

When the vendor told the suspects he didn't have any money, one of the suspects pulled an ice pick and held it against the victim's stomach, police said.

While one suspect held the ice pick to the victim, the other removed the victim's wallet and removed all of his money.

The suspects then fled the scene.

While investigating this robbery, officers learned of another robbery of an ice cream vendor that occurred at the same location just minutes before the one they were investigating, police said.

The second victim told police two male suspects approached him, they demanded money, and one of the suspects displayed an ice pick.

Police said the victim gave the suspects his money and they fled the scene.

A short time later, officers attempted to contact several subjects on Marin Street, police said.

The subjects ran away, but officers were able to quickly stop and detain them.

Officers noticed one of the subjects matched the description of one of the armed robbery suspects, police said.

Both suspects were ultimately positively identified as the suspects that were involved in the robberies and were found in possession of an undisclosed amount of cash. The ice pick was not located.
