Sinkhole Closes I-5 In Both Directions Near Tracy

TRACY, San Joaquin County (CBS SF) – The sinkhole that opened up on Tuesday on the northbound side of Interstate 5 south of Tracy has now shut down traffic in both directions of the freeway in that area.

Caltrans said it blocked off the entire roadway between Highways 33 and 132 after more ground started to give way.

Authorities said the northbound lanes of I-5 will remain closed for repairs until at least Friday at 5:00 p.m. Meanwhile, southbound lanes are not expected to open until Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

A detour has been set up for drivers to get around the sinkhole.
