Weiner Holds Narrow Lead Over Kim In State Senate Race
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Two San Francisco supervisors were fighting Tuesday night to claim Mark Leno's state senate seat.
Tuesday night could be a preview of the general election. SF Supervisor Scott Weiner has a narrow lead with 50 percent of the vote, while Supervisor Jane Kim has 38 percent.
Weiner had a big financial edge. Kim had the support of Bernie Sanders.
Tuesday night, wiener held an event at the Blackbird in San Franciscos Castro District.
He is already celebrating an early victory.
"We're going to celebrate tonight. But then we move on to November, and that's going to be a dog fight," said Weiner. "It's going to be a competitive race and we're going to work really hard."
Meanwhile, Kim wasn't backing down. She made an appearance at a watch party for Bernie Sanders.
The crowd cheered as she took the stage and thanked her supporters. She was one of a handful of candidates nationwide endorsed by Sanders.
